Crowd Management Has Nothing to do with Size
By kathrynv on Jun 25, 2008 in Careers

I’m not even five feet tall but I can command a crowd’s attention if I need to. People sometimes assume that my small size means that people aren’t going to pay attention to me or take me seriously. However, I learned a long time ago that crowd management doesn’t have anything at all to do with size. Having a brood of younger siblings that I had to keep in line certainly helped me learn that lesson!
Being able to control a crowd involves several different factors that are unrelated to an individual’s size. First, you need to be confident so that you can lead others successfully. Second, you need to be aware of ways to get attention that don’t require yelling or making physical threats. And third, you need equipment designed to assist you in your mission.
The equipment is the easy part. You can rent a temporary fence for a big event or even set up an impromptu barricade of on-hand materials if you need to. So it’s not the tools that you need to work on if you want to be good at crowd control. Instead you need to build your own confidence. Just because you’re little doesn’t mean you can’t do any job that you want.
