My Dad’s Online Activities

My dad is building links and he doesn’t even know it.

In the handful of years since he retired, my dad has developed an interest in hanging out on the travel blogs and forums online.  I think he even got himself kicked off of one, but that’s another story.

My dad has traveled in Germany a lot, and as a result knows quite a bit about planning German travel.  He haunts several related forums and even has his own website, which he links to all the time.  He has quite a following.  I think it’s funny that my dad is doing such a good job of promoting and building links to his site, and he doesn’t even realize that what he’s doing is one of the major goals of online marketing.

My dad loves to give advice and provide information for people who are traveling to Germany.  Although he’s toyed with the idea of going into business as a German travel consultant, he enjoys it so much that he’s just as happy doing it for free.  He has helped people to find the best deal of the day and to book a vacation hotel out of the touristy (read: more expensive) areas.

My mom, of course, wishes that he’d make it into a productive business or something, to justify all the time he spends on it.  But whatever — he’s retired, so he’s earned the right to do what he wants with his time!
