We all keep hearing about how bad the economy is, but lately I have been experiencing it firsthand. I work on commissions only, but I always felt secure that the product I sell would be consistently needed by my consumers. I am a Ft. Lauderdale health insurance sales agent.

Now I completely understand that Fl health insurance is a major expense. But it is a necessary expense. Even a small injury like a broken leg is going to cost you a small fortune if you don’t have good health insurance. And think of how financially devastating a serious illness like cancer would be if you did not have coverage through health insurance! Choosing between bankruptcy and death doesn’t sound like a fun choice at all.

Unfortunately, many of my clients are having so much trouble making ends meet that they can no longer justify the expense of health insurance. When I talk to them about the risk they are taking, I can tell that they understand and that they are scared. I truly empathize with these people. And it is almost always people who don’t have access to Florida group health insurance that are dropping. It has just gotten too tough for individuals these days, and they are bringing me down with them!

Suddenly, I can’t stand to leave the house.  It’s not that I’m afraid of the sun or terrified of crowds or anything like that.  I just suddenly have the deepest sense of peace and contentment in my own home.  You’d think I just had a baby, but actually, it’s the exact opposite.  My kids have flown the nest, and my husband works all day.  Now the clean house stays clean.  I can sit out back and enjoy the pool, approach the grill island with something other than intense stress in a rush to get the dinner on the table, and I can light up the out door fireplace so that when my husband does get home, we can lounge outside in the out door kitchen.  I can grab a bottle of red and we can sit and sip and eat all night long.  Because of this, for the first time in 25 years I really want to give up my job.  I felt it was such a necessary part of maintaining balance while we were raising the kids, but now, I’m done.  Maybe I should just up and retire, or maybe I could do some work from home projects on the internet.  Whatever I do, I think I’m done with being a secretary.

My baby sister knew from the moment her boyfriend asked her to marry him that she wanted a beach wedding.  She could imagine herself in a gauzy, light wedding dress walking towards the love of her life barefoot at sunset.  Once she decided on the beach by our parents’ cottage it seemed that the rest of the decision flowed easily.  She wanted a very simple wedding chocked full of elements of the beach and the outdoors.  She picked out gorgeous frangipani wedding invitations and decided to “beach them up” in a very unique way.  

She went to the shore and grabbed dozens of small beach stones and some beach glass.  She then glued them to each invitation before it went in the envelope. That way each guest had a piece of the wedding before it even happened.  It was my sister’s way of making her own beach wedding invitations and they turned out great.  When my sister realized she had beach glass left over she made each of her bridesmaids a necklace with it.

The wedding was gorgeous and exactly how my sister had imagined it. It was really the perfect beach wedding with lots of sand and sun and everybody had a great time.  And the wedding invitations?  A huge hit!

I just bought my first house, and what an adventure it has been. It all started with getting financing. I guess getting financed a few years ago was no big deal. They were just giving anyone money. Well times must have changed because I had to jump through all kinds of burning hoops. Then there was the negotiating with the seller who was actually a bank. I guess the people that owned the house before me got foreclosed upon, so the bank actually took the property back from them.

And with home ownership comes new responsibilities. I did get a home warranty, so if something major breaks down it will be covered. But little things are not part of that. I had a seriously difficult time trying to find IQAir replacement filters for a fancy whole house air filter system that was here when I bought the place. Where the heck do you find these things at? I tried Target, Wal-Mart and even the hardware store, but had no luck. Finally I got online and was able to find them at a homeopathic place that sells all kinds of wild things like homeopathic kits and stuff. And they were not cheap either. Those kinds of expenses kind of came as a surprise to me, but I guess that can be expected with home ownership.

I count myself lucky to have escaped a recent car accident with my life. It was pretty nasty! My car was totaled, but the injuries were minor. At the time, I thought losing a few teeth was wasn’t a big deal. Now, six months later, I still haven’t found a pleasing way to restore my smile.
