How I Became a Fishing Widow
By Pilot on Aug 18, 2008 in Sports
This may sound strange to some women; however, I know that I am not alone in feeling like I’ve lost my husband, not to another woman, but to fishing! I have an overwhelming feeling that I am taking a back seat to the sport of GA fly fishing these days. The first time that I felt that I was becoming a fishing widow was just after our family had gone on a trout fishing trip on Lake Blue Ridge. I thought this event would be an afternoon of floating and relaxing with the family. The guided trip would even include our lunches and beverages, so I had the idea that it was going to be fun for all.
We did have a nice day that day, but for the next several weekends, my husband would leave in the morning to go fly fishing and arrive home late that evening. Then I realized that I had become sort of a fishing widow. As I have discovered by talking to one of our Georgia fly fishing guides, I am definitely not alone in these feelings. He said that they get calls all of the time about this and that there was even a website that serves as a support group for wives of these ‘fishing fanatics’. As I started looking around the website, I discovered that I am not alone and I have met a couple of new friends that are fishing widows, too.
